Oersterke gevel van Rockpanel Woods beschermt modern woonhuis

Modern extension for a traditional family home

This beautiful, distinctive farmhouse with shutters and a brick facade is located in Bathmen in the east of the Netherlands. As working from home became more common during the COVID pandemic, the family needed extra office space, so they decided to build an extension at the rear of the house.

Bold contrast: Modern extension with Rockpanel Woods

Instead of choosing an extension in the same style as the house, the owners deliberately opted for contrast. Rockpanel Woods Rhinestone Oak was used in three widths. First, a layer of black facade cladding was installed, followed by vertical slats with a 6 mm gap between each row. This creates the illusion of looking at an open joint.

Sleek, modern facade made simple

The big advantage of Rockpanel is that it has a very authentic look, so you can hardly tell the difference from real wood. In addition, the material can be fixed directly to the ground. This is because the material is insensitive to moisture and does not shrink or expand. If wood had been chosen, it would have had to be cut about 30 cm higher due to rising damp. In this case, that was not necessary, which made it possible to achieve a sleek, modern facade.

The easy handling of the material was also a major advantage in this project, as no detailed drawings had been made in advance. This made it possible to decide on site during sawing how the various panels could be used most effectively.

A stunning contrast that works perfectly

"The result exceeded our expectations. The grey Rhinestone Oak contrasts with the farmhouse style of the house, but it’s precisely this contrast that makes it work so well. We are absolutely thrilled with how it turned out—it fits perfectly with the character of our home."
