Residential house with thatched roof renovated in a modern style

Modern accents for a classic thatched home

The top floor of a beautiful, detached house in Naaldwijk, South Holland, was converted to create additional living space, and the existing limestone facades were completely transformed. The residents wanted black accents around the roof, entrance, and windows, while still harmonising with the thatched roof and whitewashed walls.

Low-maintenance elegance with Rockpanel

At first, the owners considered meranti wood or plywood for the roof, entrance, and windows. However, it quickly became clear that a solution requiring no future painting and minimal maintenance would be ideal. Alternatives such as high-pressure laminate (HPL) with large joints would not achieve the desired visual effect. Choosing Rockpanel also eliminated any risk of discolouration over time.

A facade that stands out and lasts

Rockpanel facade cladding was chosen because it remains colourfast regardless of the weather, and there is no risk of shrinking or expanding. The material is lightweight, making it easy to work with, and its modern finish complements the thatched roof and whitewashed walls. The entrance became a striking focal point.

One material, endless possibilities

"By using Rockpanel, we were able to achieve everything that would normally be done with wood, zinc, or steel using a single material. This created a harmonious, modern overall look."
